What is the difference between a Dutch door and a stable door?

Put simply, there is no difference between a Dutch door and a stable door. They are both doors where the top and bottom halves of the door operate independently. The term ‘Dutch door’ originated from the United States where there were large Dutch communities. The term ‘Stable door’ is simply the European equivalent.

Are stable doors secure?

A Rockdoor stable door features steel multipoint hook locks with a 25mm throw that securely attaches the door to the outer frame ensuring that when the top and the bottom of the door are bolted together, they cannot be forcibly opened.

How does a stable door work?

A stable door is divided into two independent parts (top and bottom), meaning homeowners can open the top half of the door whilst keeping the bottom half securely closed. There is a bolt lock joining the top and bottom part of the door, which can be easily engaged from the inside of the door.

What is the difference between a uPVC and a composite stable door?

Typically, a uPVC stable door is made using an extruded plastic frame that is welded together, then glass is inserted in the top half and a plastic infill panel is used for the bottom half. A composite stable door features either a uPVC or GRP skin, that is then filled with either timber or high-density PU foam like a Rockdoor which results in a stronger and more thermally efficient door.

What is a stable door used for?

A stable door is great for those that are looking to let air circulate through the home whilst keeping pets and children safely inside. Stable doors are a great choice for those that have a private garden and want to bring the outside in.
